When Sears Holdings acquired Wally Sensors, we went about designing an update for the launch of a new generation of sensors. In addition to supporting Wally's own sensors, the Wally app will now become "works-with" solution that will connect more home products, including Phillips Hue, Wemo & Craftsman Garage Doors.
One of the first things I did was a complete audit of the connecting process of the version 1 product. In any IoT product, the ability for the user to connect their app to their hardware product with efficiency, ease and a low failure rate always proves to be a challenge. A detailed audit allows product owners, designers and engineers to get clarity on the current state to then improve upon it.
Adding Bluetooth (LE) technology allows for much easier connection to Wally hub and addresses some current failure points.
In this example, I documented the user flow of how Phillips Hue lights could be added to Wally through a discovery method.
A blue sky approach for a proposed direction for Wally to go that will allow users to set up the dashboard based on their specific need.
